Christ’s Ascension

Christ’s Ascension is a historic event that happened 40 days after first fruits day or Easter Sunday when Jesus arose from the grave.  The account is found in the first chapter of Acts.  There is much we can learn from studying the event.  This Sunday will be just over 40 days from Easter.  All of our Sunday School classes will study the Ascension of Jesus and how we can better understand this event.  It shows us many truths about our exalted savior and Lord.  Make plans to join us in this study from God’s Word.  Sunday School begins at 9:45 every Sunday Morning.  There are classes for you and your friends.  Have a good week.  See you on Sunday.

Today we complete The Story

Today we complete The Story.  The Story has taken us on a chronological study of God’s redemptive plan for all people in all times detailed in the pages of God’s Word.  Tonight as the youth and children finish up the study; know that you and all of us have studied a large portion of scripture for a purpose.  We study the Bible not for simply academic purposes – no.  It is for a personal knowledge of God as He reveals Himself to us in His Word.  Also, we read the Bible to learn to live out the new life we have in Christ.  To passionately live connected with God having correct knowledge and discernment.  Jesus had zeal for His Father’s house.  It was this zeal that the religious leaders in Jerusalem hated and they therefore planned Jesus’ death.  The Lord was well aware of their hearts and intentions, yet He still had great zeal for His Father’s house.  Jesus leads us today to follow Him in knowledge and in zeal or passion.  God asks us to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.  Are believers today sold out to complete surrender to the Lord God as the early believers in the book of Acts?  They turned the world upside down in their lifetimes.  Does our world today need to be turned right side up again?  The Bible is God’s story of redemption.  The life you and I live is a part of the redemptive story.  Let us allow the light of our Lord Jesus shine to a lost world and let us truly be the people God has called us to be.  As believers, we are a part of God’s redeeming plan.  “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvellous light:”  1Peter 2:9

Are you following Jesus today?

Are you following Jesus today?  I know many of you are, and I am grateful for you.  However, some very devout religious people who attend church are not.  They are following the teachings of men.  They don’t personally know the Lord Jesus.  Like the Apostle Paul, before his conversion, he was religious and he even persecuted Jesus.  We read in Acts 9:4, “Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?”  Jesus appeared to Saul, later Paul on the road to Damascus. (Modern day, Syria.)   There are very religious people today doing this very thing.  If you are not following Jesus personally today, then you are persecuting Him instead.  In John 21:19, Jesus told Peter to simply, “follow me.”  Then He repeated His simple instruction to Peter again in verse 22, “…follow me.”   Who are you obeying?  Who do you turn to when you need direction and guidance?  Are you following a religious system of man?  -or-  Are you following the risen Savior…Messiah…Jesus?  Serve Him alone today.  He will lead you when you ask Him to.  Read Galatians 3:1-8 this evening.  Paul describes walking by faith as being led by The Holy Spirit.  I am thankful that you desire to be more than just hearers of The Word / you want to be doers of The Word.  Be The church, the body of Christ in this old world daily, connect with other believers and…follow Jesus together.

Question Everything.

What?  That’s right.  I want you to have freedom to ask tough questions of me, our fellowship, our mission, and our God.  Why?  When a small child is growing…they need to ask questions to help bring answers to understand the world.  Some of the most challenging questions come from the mouths and hearts of kids.  Questions like, Mom/Dad, “Where do babies come from?”  others are not so hard …like…”When will we get there?”  There are different needs we all have in our faith development.  We open up doors of understanding and knowledge when we ask the real questions that we have been wondering about.  “Ask and it shall be given you”…Jesus said.(Matt. 7:7)    Even asking tough questions about others increases meaning and purpose.  We are accountable to God and one another to be Kingdom minded and focused.  Are we?  Are we fulfilling the orders of our leader Jesus Christ who told us to go into all nations and make disciples of all people.  Are we people of New Testament power, strength, love, and grace to all around us, including our close family and friends?  You might ask yourself questions.  Like..”Have I walked with Jesus today?”  Question everything.  Doubt is not questioning.  Doubt can come from a simple misunderstanding, or seeing a big difference in the claims of Christ compared to the lives of God’s people.  Remember, when you ask questions…keep your eyes on Jesus.  He started your faith and He will perfect it.  No other person has the words of life, except Christ.  Have your tough questions been asked?  They will get answered when you ask the Lord.

Read Chapter 29 of The Story this week

Read Chapter 29 of The Story this week.  The chapter is all about the apostle Paul and his journeys as a minister of the gospel.  Know that you too are a minister of the gospel.  You may not get paid to preach and do good deeds that glorify God.  However, you are called saints, chosen people, royal ambassadors, and holy priests to all people you come in contact with.  If you travel for your job, or work and live here; use any opportunity to glorify God with the good news and saving knowledge of God’s Son Jesus.  How He fulfilled the law perfectly and took sin and punishment upon himself.  That we have eternal life and abundant life only in a authentic daily walk with Christ – the Messiah of the world.   Remember the words of Jesus are the words of life.  He said you are to deny yourself, take up your cross daily, and follow Him.  As Jon Randales said let us “be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves”  (James 1:22).  Have a great night.  See you tonight as we meet for midweek Bible Study and pray together.  Paul Smith
